Adjarian women’s handicrafts

About the collection

                          Adjarian women’s handicrafts

In Georgia, especially in Adjara, weaving and embroidery dates back to ancient times. Adjarian women embellished household items with artistic sewing: Mutaka (hard pillow')cases, curtains. Bead embroidery was also spread. Native women embellished watches, money cases, headbands with beads. Fabrics and “Yazma’’ (gauze) were decorated with linen. Linen molds were made by famous wood masters Lazi.

Knitting socks had an important part in the family. Unmarried women had to follow in Mzitevi at least 10-15 pairs of socks woven by themselves.
